*I’d like to give a shout out to my awesome friend, Regina J, who, when she heard that I had finished the first three books in the Twilight series, offered to loan me her copy of the fourth one, but instead secretly went and ordered me my very own copy from Amazon. It arrived yesterday in the company of yet another book by the same author that I’ve been wanting to read! The riches!
How lovely is that? Of course, this means I’ll have to stop teasing Regina about her “allergy” to the post office (she usually saves up Christmas and birthday gifts between visits and showers us with them all at once and in person), since that nearly pathological aversion is probably partly responsible for the two beautiful new hardbacks sitting on my bookshelf right now.
And oh, they smell delicious! (Come on! I know I’m not the only book sniffer out there.)
*Today I got to talk with the mother of one of my new students. She wanted to meet me before finalizing her daughter’s enrollment in kindergarten. We had a nice visit and I tried not to feel like I was being tested as I answered questions about the curriculum and myself. (I think I’d give myself a B+.) So there you have it: I’ve already convinced one parent that I am an honest-to-goodness, bona fide teacher! Now I just have to convince a room full of five year olds and I’m gold.
*Speaking of teaching, Jen came in to the school today to officially pass the torch, showing me where to find all the supplemental teaching materials, answering the first hundred of my thousand questions, and revealing the top secret hiding spot for Kathy’s chocolate stash (you don’t keep track of how much is in there, do you, Kathy?) I feel like I’m stepping into big shoes, but Jen’s confidence in me also bolstered my own. And I have her cell phone number, for when I remember those other 900 questions.
*I just cracked open an egg for the veggie omelet I was making for lunch, and it had two yolks. Two yolks! Cool, huh? If I was Caroline Ingalls, I could charge Mrs. Oleson extra for that one.

Please remember, if Mrs. Oleson won’t give you extra for double yolks, Pa can sell the eggs to the men at Hansen’s mill. They’ll be happy to pay double what Mrs. Oleson will give you!
If it was possible for me to like you more, April, this comment would have done it. That was an awesome Caroline moment–it’s no mystery how Half Pint came by her fiery temper!
I’m sooo excited about the (surely) forthcoming stories about five-year-olds and their parents. Can’t wait.
I just have to say again how thrilled I am that you are taking my place. You are going to do a fabulous job! And I look forward to your phone calls and questions. All 900 of them. 🙂
I really enjoyed reading the Twilight series! What an interesting idea for a book and quite the addicting read. I’m interested to know what you think/thought of the 4th one. Such the controversy!
Nothing can replace Harry, but it’s nice to have more books to explore new worlds!
I haven’t read it yet, but I’ll let you know when I do! You’ll probably think this is totally weird, but while I was waiting to get my hands on the fourth book, I decided to reread the first three. I was in the middle of the second one when the new one arrived. Now I can’t just skip over to the new one…I have to finish reading the second and third one so I can keep the continuity of the story going. I know, I’m crazy.

Daniel and I have been renting the whole Little House series from Netflix. I am enjoying the review and it’s Daniel’s first time through. It’s great to see him enjoying the show we grew up on!

You know, just recently I’ve been hearing about this Twilight series – from all over the place. Is it really that good? Do they have to be read in order?
I just heard about them a month or so ago, and finally got around to reading them a couple of weeks ago. They’re vastly entertaining, but in that guilty pleasure sort of way. I described them to a friend as “Ann Rice meets Dawson’s Creek”. Just your typical vampire-human-werewolf teenage love triangle sort of stuff. 😉 I enjoyed them a lot, but I probably won’t tell my couple of “book snob” friends that I read them!
Yes, you should read them in order–the story builds on itself, and the fourth book wraps up all the loose ends nicely. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be instantly transported back into your seventeen year old mind and fall in love a little bit with Edward yourself.

I’ve got 8 chickens and one of them, named Cluck Bucket, lays double yolked eggs every couple of days. Sometimes the eggs are so big, I can’t close the egg carton. I’ve said to my husband, “Good grief, somebody was constipated today!”
