Prayer Request

Standard

I was going to write this whole big blog post about today’s historic inauguration of brand new President Obama (something along the lines of “hoping for the best!”), but events intervened, and now I find myself sitting here aimlessly clicking windows open and closed, wondering what in the world I can do to love my sweet, sensitive student who got out of bed this past Sunday happily anticipating her sixth birthday party only to have her whole world turn upside down when her father suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.

Please pray for my student (God knows who she is) and for her family in the difficult days and weeks and months ahead.  Pray for strength, for healing, and for God’s “peace beyond understanding” as they adapt to the new shape that life has taken.

And please pray for me, that I can make school a place of comfort for her when she returns.  Pray that I will know what words to say and when to say nothing at all.  And please, oh, please, pray that I can help her feel and know the bedrock truth of God’s love for her in this time when everything else is shifting beneath her feet.

Thank you.

  1. God has put you in this precious little girl’s life for a reason. He will give you the wisdom and words so you will know what to say. He will use you to bring her and her family comfort. Bless you, Katrina.

  2. WOW! I am so so sorry to hear about this happening to a child and her family. YOU will know what to say and when to say nothing at all. She is so lucky to have you in her life to support her. Even at only 6 years old, she’ll remember her kindgergarten year and how strong her support system was. Time heals all wounds. My heart goes out to her, her family and everyone affected by his passing.

  3. I will definitely pray for this student and her family. God will help you know the right thing to say and to do. You just love that child and do whatever it takes to help her get through it. You are in a great situation at a christian school because you can even pray with her. I was not quite so young when my dad died suddenly (I was 12), but I remember how wonderful my teachers and friends were during that very sad time. I found out many years later that my teachers had talked to my friends and just prepped them about sensitivity and love. As sad as it was for me at home, school was a place I could go and get away from all that. I know you will make school a haven for that sweet child. Lots of prayers for all of you.

  4. I read your blog all the time, but don’t think I’ve ever commented before. Please know that I have prayed for your student, and will continue to pray that you can be a comfort to her as her life is changing.

    God bless you!

  5. I am praying for her now, Katrina, and you. How very sad and upsetting this news is. This is an unimaginable pain for me. One of my very best friends had this experience with the death of her mother around this same age. I am so happy to say that she fully knows and experiences God’s love for her now even though those days were more traumatic than anything I could imagine at that age. May you be a blessing to your young, hurting student. I know God will give you wisdom and discernment to communicate His love.

  6. Thank you all so very much for your prayers on behalf of my student and her family. I have every confidence they are being heard and answered with abundant blessings of grace and peace in the storm.

What a joy to be in the family of God and to know that we never carry the burden all alone.

  7. How awful. This is one of my biggest fears- that something will happen to me or to Tim and that our children will somehow have to live with that burden of pain. I will pray also for this dear child and for your interactions with her. May God’s love be shown through your tenderness.
